My Child is Finding it Difficult to Come to School

Sometimes coming to school feels really hard.

That's okay. You are not alone, and we are here to help.

Some children find it difficult to come to school, and this can happen for lots of different reasons. It might be that school feels a bit worrying or overwhelming. It might be that something has changed at home or with friendships. Sometimes children find it hard to put into words exactly what is wrong — and that's okay too.

What might this look like?

Your child might say they have a tummy ache or headache in the morning. They might get very upset at the school gate. They might find it hard to sleep the night before school. They might seem fine at the weekend but very anxious on a Monday morning.

These are all signs that your child might need a little extra support, and they are worth taking seriously.

What should I do if this happens?

The most important thing is to talk to us as early as possible. The sooner we know, the sooner we can help. Please do not wait until things feel very difficult before getting in touch.

You can speak to your child's class teacher, or come and speak to Ms Hadfield directly. We will always listen and we will never judge.

What will we do?

We will talk with you and your child to understand what is going on. Together we will think about what might help. This might be something small, like a gentle start to the morning, or it might mean involving other people who can offer support.

We will always work with you, not against you.

Why does attendance matter?

Every day in school matters. Children who attend regularly build stronger friendships, feel more settled and confident, and make better progress with their learning. Missing school can make things feel harder, not easier, over time.

We want every child at Bosley St Mary's to feel happy, safe and ready to learn. If coming to school feels hard right now, please let us help.
