Attending School

Attendance Matters at Bosley St Mary’s

At Bosley St Mary’s CE Primary School, we believe that every day counts.
Good attendance isn’t just about being in school – it’s about giving every child the best possible chance to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

When children attend school regularly, they:

  • Build strong and lasting friendships

  • Make steady, confident progress in their learning

  • Develop resilience, independence and curiosity

  • Fully engage in our BEARS values: Believe, Encourage, Achieve, Relate, Serve

Why attendance matters

Every lesson builds on the one before it. Even a few days missed can make it harder for children to keep up, and to feel part of the class community.
Regular attendance gives children a sense of belonging – a routine that helps them to feel safe, successful and proud of themselves.

We ask all parents and carers to support us in ensuring children are in school every day and on time, unless they are genuinely unwell.
Together, we can help every child to make the very most of their primary years.

Working together

We understand that, at times, families face genuine challenges. We want to work with you, not against you. If you are experiencing any difficulties that may affect attendance or punctuality, please contact school as soon as possible – we are here to help.

If your child is absent, please let the school office know before 9.15am, giving a clear reason for the absence.

Leave of absence during term time

Leave can only be granted in the most exceptional circumstances and must be authorised by the Headteacher.
Details of how to request leave, and what counts as an exceptional circumstance, can be found on our
Leave of Absence and Holidays in Term Time.
