We recognise that children have different health and medical needs. Whether your child has an ongoing medical condition, an allergy or needs short-term support following an illness or injury, we aim to ensure they receive the care and understanding they need to enjoy school life.

Our priority is to work closely with families so that children can participate safely and confidently in all aspects of learning.  You can read our policies here.

Supporting Children with Medical Conditions

We are committed to supporting children with medical conditions, disabilities and additional health needs.

Some children may require an Individual Healthcare Plan, developed in partnership with parents, carers and relevant healthcare professionals. This helps ensure that staff understand a child's needs and the arrangements required to keep them safe.

If your child has a medical condition, or their health needs change, please let us know so that we can agree appropriate support.

Medicines in School

We understand that some children need medication during the school day.

To ensure medicines are administered safely, parents and carers must make arrangements with school before bringing medication onto the premises.

Medicines must be provided in their original packaging, with clear instructions, and the appropriate parental consent must be completed.

Please speak to a member of staff if your child requires regular medication, emergency medication or temporary treatment during school hours.

Further information is available in our school policies.

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

The safety of children with allergies is particularly important.

Please ensure that school is informed of any diagnosed allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements, including changes to existing medical advice.

We work with families and our catering provider to make suitable arrangements and reduce risks.

Please do not send nuts or nut-based products into school, as these may pose a serious risk to members of our school community.

First Aid and Accidents

Children are naturally active and occasional bumps, scrapes and minor injuries are part of school life.

We have arrangements in place to provide appropriate first aid and respond to accidents or medical emergencies.

Parents and carers will be informed of injuries and incidents in accordance with our first aid procedures. Where further medical attention is required, we will contact families and seek appropriate assistance.

Please ensure that your child's emergency contact information is kept up to date.

Illness and Attendance

Regular attendance is important for children's learning, friendships and wellbeing. Children should attend school whenever they are well enough, including with minor illnesses such as coughs and colds.

For guidance, please visit our Is My Child Too Ill for School? page.

If your child has a medical condition affecting their attendance, please speak to us so we can work together to support them in school.

Working Together

Good communication between home and school is essential to keeping children safe.

If your child has a medical condition, allergy or health need that may affect their school day, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance.

We will work with you and, where appropriate, healthcare professionals to understand your child's needs and put suitable arrangements in place.

Our relevant medical and first aid policies are available on our School Policies page.

We want every child to feel safe, supported and able to enjoy everything that school has to offer.
